How to restart Signia hearing aids and troubleshoot common problems, Professional Hearing Solutions Islamabad
Quick answer: To restart a Signia hearing aid, open the battery door fully for about 10-15 seconds and close it again on most battery models. On most rechargeable (Charge&Go) models, place the hearing aids in the charger and take them out again, or hold the push button or rocker switch for a few seconds. A full programming reset is done by an audiologist in Signia Connexx software, not at home.

How do I restart my Signia hearing aids?

A restart clears most temporary glitches. On battery models you briefly open and close the battery door; on rechargeable models you usually place the hearing aids in the charger and take them out again. The exact steps vary by model and generation, so keep your user guide handy.

Professional Hearing Solutions, an authorised Signia hearing aid dealer serving Islamabad and Rawalpindi since 1999, often sees a hearing aid that seemed dead come back to life after a simple restart or a new wax guard. The steps below are safe, do not erase your programming, and solve many everyday problems.

Battery models (size 10, 312 or 13 batteries)

  1. Open the battery door fully. On most battery models, leave it open for about 10-15 seconds so the hearing aid powers down completely.

  2. Check the battery faces the correct way, and replace it if it is old or the aid has been giving a low-battery warning.

  3. Close the door gently and fully. Many models play a short start-up tone to confirm the aid is on.

  4. Put the aid in your ear. Most Signia devices return to the start program set by your audiologist.

A new zinc-air battery needs its tab removed and about a minute of air before it reaches full voltage. Our hearing aid batteries page explains sizes and typical battery life.

Rechargeable models (Signia Charge&Go)

  1. On most Signia rechargeable models (Charge&Go), placing the hearing aids in the charger switches them off. Leave them seated for a few seconds and check that the charging light comes on.

  2. Take them out again. They usually switch on automatically and restart, often with a start-up tone.

  3. Many models can also be switched off and on by pressing and holding the rocker switch or push button for a few seconds until the LED or a tone confirms it. Check your model's user guide, because buttons and hold times differ between generations.

  4. If the aid does not wake up, leave it on the charger for a full charge and try again.

With a rechargeable model such as the Signia Pure Charge&Go, the charger is part of the system, so a charging fault can look like a hearing aid fault.

How do I reset Signia hearing aids to factory settings?

You cannot do a full factory reset of the programming at home. The fitting is stored in the hearing aid by your audiologist using Signia Connexx software, and only a programming session can reset or rebuild it. What you can do at home is restart the device and return to the start program.

Often what people really want is to undo an accidental change: a volume that drifted, a program switched to TV, or a slider moved in the app. Restarting returns most models to the start program and default volume. In the Signia mobile app you can also go back to the start program and undo adjustments made in the app.

A true reset is a clinical job. Our audiologists connect the device to Signia Connexx, check the firmware, re-run the fitting against your latest audiogram and fine-tune it with you, as part of our hearing aid programming service. If your hearing has changed, you need an updated hearing test first.

Signia app not connecting: how do I re-pair Bluetooth?

Remove the hearing aids from your phone's Bluetooth settings and from the Signia app, restart the hearing aids, and pair again through the Signia app. Most connection problems clear with this clean re-pair.

  1. Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on, the Signia app is updated, and the hearing aids are charged or have fresh batteries.

  2. Forget the hearing aids on the phone. On iPhone, go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices and remove them (and from the general Bluetooth list if they appear there). On Android, remove them from the Bluetooth device list.

  3. In the Signia app, remove or unpair the hearing aids if the option is shown.

  4. Restart both hearing aids using the battery-door or charger method above. Restart the phone as well.

  5. Open the Signia app and follow its pairing steps. On Android, pairing is done through the Signia app; on iPhone, the app will guide you through the Hearing Devices pairing request. Keep the hearing aids close to the phone and accept both left and right pairing requests.

On Android, aggressive battery-saver modes and switched-off location permission can block the connection. For more phone-specific fixes, see our guide to hearing aid app problems and quick fixes.

Signia hearing aid troubleshooting: what should I check first?

Most problems come from four things: power (battery or charge), blockage (wax guard or dome), moisture, and fit. Check these in that order before assuming the hearing aid is broken.

Signia hearing aid troubleshooting guide

Problem

Likely cause

What to try at home

When to visit PHS

No sound or weak sound

Blocked wax guard or dome, dead battery or low charge, moisture inside the aid

Fresh battery or full charge; restart; replace the wax guard and dome; dry the aid overnight in a drying kit

Still weak after a new wax guard, fresh power and drying

Whistling or feedback

Loose fit, wrong dome size, worn dome, wax in the ear canal, volume too high

Re-insert the aid fully; check the dome is not split or loose; lower volume slightly; see a doctor if your ear canal feels blocked with wax

Whistling continues with a good fit, or started after weight change or a new dome

Distorted, crackly or tinny sound

Moisture, sweat in the microphone or receiver, damaged receiver wire, low battery

Restart; fresh battery or full charge; gently brush the microphone openings; dry overnight

Distortion persists, or the receiver wire is bent, cracked or loose

One side not working

Battery, blocked wax guard or dome on that side, moisture, receiver fault

Swap batteries left to right to test; replace the wax guard on the silent side; restart both

One side stays silent after these checks

Not charging (rechargeable)

Dirty charging contacts, faulty cable or adapter, loose USB socket, power cut during charging

Wipe contacts with a dry cloth; try another wall adapter and outlet; seat the aids firmly; confirm the charging light

No charging light with a known good adapter, or the battery no longer lasts a day

App not connecting

Old pairing, outdated app, phone permissions, connected to another device

Forget and re-pair as described above; update the app; restart phone and aids

Pairing fails on more than one phone, or streaming has stopped completely

Sudden change in hearing

Possible medical cause, not the hearing aid

Do not adjust settings to compensate

See an ENT doctor urgently, then book a hearing test with PHS

How to clean the hearing aid itself

Wipe the hearing aid each night with a soft dry cloth and gently brush the microphone openings. Change the wax guard (the tiny filter at the end of the receiver) whenever it looks blocked, and replace domes when they harden or split. Never use water, alcohol or sprays on the device. This is device care only; if your ear canal itself feels blocked, see your doctor.

Signia charger not charging: what about load-shedding?

Check the contacts, the cable and the adapter first. In Pakistan, interrupted charging during load-shedding is a common reason a rechargeable aid does not last the day, so build a routine around it.

  • Charge overnight as a habit, and seat each aid firmly so the charging light confirms contact.

  • Use a good-quality wall adapter; low-grade adapters are a common cause of charging faults.

  • During load-shedding, charge from a UPS-backed socket or a reliable power bank, if your charger's guide allows USB power.

  • Keep the charger out of direct sun and dust, and wipe the contacts weekly with a dry cloth.

How do humidity, sweat and dust affect hearing aids in Pakistan?

Moisture and dust are the biggest everyday enemies of hearing aids here. Summer sweat, monsoon humidity and dusty roads cause many of the weak, crackly or intermittent faults we repair.

Sweat runs into the microphone openings and humidity condenses inside the aid. Use a drying kit overnight for battery models (remove the battery first); for rechargeable models, follow the manufacturer's drying advice and avoid heat. Remove the aids before bathing, wudu or hair spray, and store them in their case.

When should I bring my Signia hearing aid to PHS?

Visit PHS when home checks do not fix the problem, when there is physical damage, or when your hearing itself seems to have changed. We repair all brands, and PHS manages the Signia warranty for German-original devices bought from PHS.

Our hearing aid repair service handles dead receivers, broken battery doors, damaged shells, charging faults and moisture damage for Signia and other brands. German-original Signia devices bought from PHS carry the full manufacturer warranty, and we handle the warranty process. Repair charges depend on the fault and are confirmed after inspection. Call 0332-5014111. See also our guide to hearing aid repair in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Red flag: a sudden drop in hearing in one ear, ear pain, discharge, dizziness or new one-sided ringing is a medical issue, not a hearing aid fault. See an ENT doctor the same or next day before changing any hearing aid settings.

Bring the hearing aids, the charger or spare batteries, and your phone if the problem is app-related. Visit our Blue Area clinic on Fazl-ul-Haq Road, Islamabad, or our Saidpur Road branch in Rawalpindi, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. If it is time to replace an older device, our Signia hearing aids price guide for Pakistan explains current models. PHS has 400+ Google reviews with a 4.9-star average.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I restart Signia hearing aids?

On most battery models, open the battery door fully for about 10-15 seconds and close it again. On most Signia rechargeable models, place the hearing aids in the charger and take them out again; many can also be switched off and on by holding the push button or rocker switch for a few seconds. Exact steps vary by model, so check your user guide.

Can I factory reset my Signia hearing aid at home?

No. The programming that matches your hearing loss is stored by your audiologist using Signia Connexx software, and only a programming session can fully reset it. At home you can restart the aid, which returns it to the start program on most models, and use the Signia app to go back to the start program or undo app adjustments.

Why is my Signia app not connecting to my hearing aids?

The most common causes are an old or broken pairing, an outdated app, missing phone permissions or the hearing aids being connected to another device. Forget the hearing aids in the phone's Bluetooth settings and in the Signia app, restart the hearing aids and phone, then pair again through the Signia app. If it still fails on two phones, bring the aids to PHS.

Signia machine band ho gayi, kya karun?

Pehle power check karein: battery model mein nayi battery dalein, ya rechargeable machine ko poora charge karein. Phir restart karein: battery door 10-15 second khol kar band karein, ya machine ko charger mein rakh kar nikal lein. Wax guard aur dome badal kar dekhein. Phir bhi awaz na aaye to 0332-5014111 par call karke PHS tashreef layein.

Why does my Signia hearing aid whistle?

Whistling (feedback) happens when amplified sound escapes from the ear and returns to the microphone. Typical causes are a loose fit, a worn or wrong-size dome, wax in the ear canal or volume set too high. Re-insert the aid fully and check the dome. If whistling continues with a good fit, PHS can change the dome or mould and adjust feedback settings in Connexx.

My Signia charger is not charging. What should I do?

Wipe the charging contacts with a dry cloth, seat each hearing aid firmly and check for the charging light. Try a different good-quality wall adapter and socket. During load-shedding, charge from a UPS-backed socket or reliable power bank. If there is still no charging light with a known good adapter, or the battery no longer lasts a day, bring the charger and aids to PHS.

Does PHS repair hearing aids that were not bought from PHS?

Yes. PHS repairs hearing aids of all brands at its Islamabad and Rawalpindi clinics. Signia warranty claims are handled by PHS for German-original devices bought from PHS. Repair charges depend on the fault and are confirmed after inspection. Call 0332-5014111 to arrange a visit to Blue Area, Islamabad or Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi.
