Where can I get my hearing aid repaired in Islamabad or Rawalpindi?

Bring it to Professional Hearing Solutions at Blue Area, Islamabad or Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We inspect, clean, test and repair Signia, Rexton, Audio Service and ReSound hearing aids.

Professional Hearing Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd, an authorised Signia hearing aid dealer serving Islamabad and Rawalpindi since 1999, runs hearing aid repair at both clinics. Because we fit and programme devices ourselves, we know how they fail in local conditions: dust in the ear-canal parts, sweat in summer, damp in the monsoon and, for rechargeables, charging interrupted by load-shedding. As an authorised Signia dealer, we can manage warranty claims on German-original Signia devices with the manufacturer. We have 400+ Google reviews with a 4.9-star average.

The Islamabad clinic is at Office B-9 Basement, Muhammad Gulistan Khan House 82 East, adjacent to Tehzeeb Bakers, Fazl-ul-Haq Road, Blue Area. The Rawalpindi clinic is at Office 5 and 6, Ground Floor, Siraj Plaza, opposite Rasheed Nursing Home, adjacent to Gulzari Optics, Saidpur Road. Our Islamabad hearing aids guide explains how to reach Blue Area from the main sectors.

Why has my hearing aid stopped working? Common faults and causes

The usual causes are a blocked wax guard, a flat or badly seated battery, moisture, damaged tubing or receiver wire, or a charging contact problem. Many can be checked at home in a few minutes.

Common hearing aid faults, likely causes and who can fix them

Fault

Likely causes

Try at home

Needs the clinic when

No sound (dead)

Flat battery, blocked wax guard, device switched off, moisture

Fresh battery or full charge; change wax guard; open and close battery door

Still dead after a new battery and wax guard

Whistling or feedback

Loose dome or mould, wax in the ear canal, cracked tubing, hand or phone close to the aid

Reseat the aid; check dome size and fit

Whistling continues when fitted properly, or the ear canal feels blocked

Weak or muffled sound

Wax guard or microphone cover blocked, hardened or wet tubing, ear wax, hearing change

Change wax guard; clean dome; dry the device

No improvement, or both aids sound weak (retest hearing)

Crackling or cutting out

Moisture, dirty battery contacts, damaged receiver wire

Dry overnight; clean contacts gently

Continues after drying; visible wire damage

Battery drains quickly

Heavy streaming, old stock batteries, moisture, a fault

Use fresh, in-date batteries; remove pull-tab and wait a minute before inserting

Much shorter life than usual with fresh batteries

Rechargeable not charging

Dirty charging contacts, loose plug, power cuts, ageing battery

Clean contacts; seat the aid firmly; check the light pattern and wall power

Lights show an error, or charge no longer lasts the day

Moisture or dust damage

Sweat, rain, monsoon humidity, dusty travel

Dry in a drying box overnight

Sound stays distorted or intermittent

Bluetooth or app problem

Pairing lost, phone update, app settings

Restart phone and aids; re-pair

Pairing fails repeatedly; programme reset needed

For Bluetooth and app issues specifically, our step-by-step guide on fixing hearing aid app and Bluetooth problems covers pairing, streaming drops and phone updates.

What can I safely do at home before bringing it in?

Change the battery or fully charge it, replace the wax guard, clean the dome or mould, and dry the device overnight. Do not open the casing, use sharp tools or apply heat.

  1. Power: insert a fresh, in-date battery (let a zinc-air battery breathe for about a minute after removing the tab), or fully charge a rechargeable aid, checking the charger light.

  2. Wax guard: on receiver-in-canal and custom aids, replace the small white filter with the tool supplied. A blocked wax guard is the most common cause of a dead or weak aid.

  3. Dome or mould: wipe with a dry tissue or a cleaning cloth. Replace domes that are stiff, torn or discoloured. Wash ear moulds (only the mould, detached from a BTE) in mild soapy water and dry completely.

  4. Tubing: on behind-the-ear aids, look for water droplets, cracks or hardening in the tube. Condensation can block sound in humid weather.

  5. Drying: place the aid (battery door open, or rechargeable as the manufacturer advises) in a drying container overnight.

  6. Check for ear wax: if your own ear feels blocked, the problem may be wax in the ear, not the hearing aid. See a clinician rather than using cotton buds.

Do not use a hair dryer, oven, microwave, alcohol, or oils on a hearing aid, and never try to open the casing or pull on a receiver wire. Home fixes like these often turn a minor fault into a costly one and can affect the manufacturer warranty.

Batteries in Pakistan are sometimes sold from old or heat-stored stock that drains fast. Our hearing aid batteries page explains sizes and storage.

How does hearing aid repair work at PHS, and how long does it take?

We inspect and test the device, explain the fault, and fix what we can in-clinic. Most minor issues are handled in-clinic; complex repairs may need manufacturer service, and we give you a timeline at inspection.

The repair process at Professional Hearing Solutions

Step

What happens

1. Inspection

Visual check, listening check and cleaning of microphones, receiver, wax guard, dome, tubing and contacts

2. Diagnosis

We explain the fault in plain language and whether it is a minor in-clinic fix or needs manufacturer service

3. In-clinic repair

Parts such as wax guards, domes, tubing and ear-mould fittings are replaced; the device is cleaned and dried

4. Programming check

Settings are checked and, if needed, re-programmed in manufacturer software such as Signia Connexx

5. Manufacturer service

For internal faults, the device may be sent for manufacturer repair; warranty status is checked for German-original Signia devices

6. Timeline and quote

You get a timeline at inspection, and any charges outside warranty are explained before work starts

If a repair or reset changes how your aid sounds, fine-tuning is done through our hearing aid programming service. If the device is older and repairs are becoming frequent, we will tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense. German-original Signia devices typically last 6 to 10 years; Singapore-manufactured units usually 1 to 2 years; Chinese copies often fail within 6 to 12 months and are generally not worth repeated repair. PHS does not dispense Chinese copies.

Which hearing aid brands does PHS repair?

PHS repairs and services all major hearing aid brands, including Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Starkey and Unitron. It sells four brands, Signia, Rexton, Audio Service and ReSound, and for these it also handles warranty and genuine programming.

  • Signia: authorised dealer; warranty handling on German originals; genuine Connexx programming.

  • Rexton and Audio Service: from the same manufacturer group as Signia, sharing platform technology.

  • ReSound: servicing, cleaning and programming checks for the models we dispense.

  • Other brands (Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Starkey, Unitron and more): repair, cleaning, part replacement and shell work in our Islamabad and Rawalpindi lab. We inspect the device first and explain what can be fixed before any work.

Custom ear moulds that have shrunk, cracked or yellowed can be remade; see our ear moulds page. A new mould often fixes whistling that no amount of cleaning will.

How do I protect my hearing aid from dust, humidity and the monsoon?

Dry it every night, change wax guards regularly, keep it away from heat and dust, and protect the charger from power surges. Pakistan's climate is hard on hearing aids, so daily habits prevent most repairs.

  • Monsoon and summer: sweat and humidity are the most common hidden cause of faults. Use a drying container every night from June to September, and wipe the aid after outdoor time.

  • Dust: in dusty spells or on road trips, store the aid in its case, not in a pocket. Change microphone covers and wax guards as advised.

  • Heat: never leave hearing aids or chargers in a parked car or on a sunny windowsill.

  • Load-shedding: charge rechargeable aids when power is available, and plug the charger into a stable socket; ask us whether a portable charging case suits your model.

  • Handling: insert and remove over a bed or table so a drop does not crack the casing, and keep aids away from children and pets.

  • Regular service: a clinic clean and check every few months catches worn tubing, domes and wax guards before they fail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my hearing aid whistling?

Whistling (feedback) happens when amplified sound leaks out of the ear and is picked up again by the microphone. Common causes are a dome or mould that is loose or the wrong size, ear wax in the canal, cracked tubing, or a hand or phone held close. Reseat the aid first. If whistling continues, bring it in for a fit check or new mould.

My hearing aid has no sound even with a new battery. What should I do?

Replace the wax guard first, because a blocked filter is the most common cause of a silent aid. Then check the dome or mould for wax and dry the device overnight. If there is still no sound, bring it to PHS in Blue Area, Islamabad or Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi for inspection. Do not open the casing or pull the receiver wire.

How long does hearing aid repair take at PHS?

Most minor issues, such as blocked wax guards, worn domes, tubing and cleaning, are handled in-clinic. Complex internal faults may need manufacturer service, and in that case we give you a timeline at inspection. Call 0332-5014111 before visiting so the team knows what to expect and can advise any quick checks.

Is hearing aid repair covered under warranty?

German-original Signia devices bought through an authorised dealer carry the full manufacturer warranty, which PHS manages for you. Warranty terms usually exclude physical damage, loss or tampering. If your device is outside warranty, the PHS team explains the likely charges before any work starts so you can decide whether repair or replacement is better.

My rechargeable hearing aid is not charging. What should I check?

Make sure the charger is plugged into a working socket, not one affected by load-shedding, and that the aids sit firmly in the charger. Wipe the charging contacts with a dry cloth. Check the indicator lights against your user guide. If the lights show an error, or a full charge no longer lasts the day, bring the aids and charger in together.

Do you repair Chinese copy hearing aids?

PHS does not dispense Chinese copies, and they are generally not built to be repaired: parts are not standardised and lifespan is often only 6 to 12 months. If you have one, the PHS team can test your hearing and explain your options, including German-original devices with full manufacturer warranty or openly disclosed Singapore-manufactured budget units.

How often should my hearing aid be serviced?

Clean it daily at home and dry it every night. A clinic service every few months, and more often in the monsoon or if you sweat a lot, catches worn tubing, stiff domes and blocked microphone covers before they cause faults. Behind-the-ear tubing usually needs replacing more often than people expect, especially in hot and humid weather.
