M&RIE (Microphone and Receiver-In-Ear) adds a third microphone inside the ear canal, so sound is picked up after it has been shaped by your own outer ear. Users often describe more natural sound, better localisation and less wind noise.

Traditional behind-the-ear and receiver-in-canal hearing aids place their microphones above the ear. Your outer ear (pinna) naturally filters sound in a way that helps the brain tell whether a voice is in front of or behind you. When microphones sit on top of the ear, part of that cue is lost.
